RIO DE JANEIRO – Renan dal Zotto has announced his resignation as the head coach of the Brazilian Men’s Volleyball team. This announcement came after the team qualified for the Paris 2024 Games following their match against Italy at the Maracanãzinho Gymnasium.
As Brazilian media outlets report, in statement published on ge.globo.com, Renan explained, “I made a decision this week, spoke with my wife. It’s time for a break. It’s a family decision. I’m stepping away from the national team but not from volleyball. I have also been advised medically, considering events from 2021. The players and the technical team are unaware, I will talk to them now.”
Bernardinho, who led Brazil to Olympic golds in 2004 and 2016, is the prime candidate to take over the role. Currently serving as the coordinator for the Men’s National Team, he rejoined the CBV technical staff after Brazil’s defeat to Argentina earlier this year.
Renan took over the Brazilian team in 2017, succeeding Bernardinho. During his tenure, the Men’s team clinched the 2019 World Cup and the 2021 VNL titles. However, this year Brazil failed to win the South American Championship (lost to Argentina in the final), and finished sixth in the VNL.
