Vôlei Renata kept its Brazilian Superliga hopes alive by defeating Joinville 3 sets to 1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17) at Centreventos Cau Hansen, in Joinville. The victory ties the best-of-three quarterfinal series at 1-1.
After losing the first match in a tight 3-2 battle last week, the team from Campinas needed this win to stay in contention. The decisive third game will take place on April 17 at Ginásio do Taquaral, in Campinas.
Outside hitter Adriano Xavier was the standout performer, earning the VivaVôlei Trophy after scoring 24 points (19 attacks, 5 aces). Argentine opposite Bruno Lima added 22 points.
So far, only Sada Cruzeiro has advanced to the semifinals, sweeping Vedacit Guarulhos. The rest of the playoff matchups, including Sesi Bauru vs. Praia Clube and Itambé Minas vs. Suzano, will be decided midweek.
