“We were almost perfect,” said Lucarelli, who was top scorer in the match with 13 points. “Our reception was great and Bruno had the team co-ordinated very well. We spiked well, we blocked, we served strongly – it was very good. It was a true team effort from all 15 players.I feel like we have got over our tough spell in this competition and now we are very confident. But we were surprised that Italy was not better.”
Ivan Zaytsev added:
“It was a bad night. We wasted the match. 17 service errors are way too many. I felt like I was playing children’s volleyball. Brazil played well, but they didn’t show anything new. I don’t think we felt the pressure. I think it’s just a shame for our team, we really wanted to win but we couldn’t.”
Italy’s Filippo Lanza said:
“They played an amazing game, but we should’ve handled it better. It was a hard semifinal and we tried to keep up, but they won. I don’t think there is anything psychological about our loss. We have ourselves to blame for is not having been able to eliminate them in the international rounds.”
