The worst fears came true - Gabriella Guimarães ’Gabi Guimarães’, the receiver of the Brazilian Women’s Volleyball champions Sesi-RJ, will miss the rest of the season due to an injury which she sustained during Superliga game against Hinode Barueri, yesterday.

„I know that we are all prone to get injured every day. But, I never expected something like this and always played without any fear about it! I have a ruptured ligament and need a surgery. Nothing new, since it is a typical knee injury of athletes. I was not the first and nor will be the last who got this! I’m sad to know that I will stay a long time away from what I love to do the most. Now, I need to focus on my recovery and I will be heartbroken because I can not help my team the way I wanted! I feel comfortable being in good hands, with excellent professionals that I trust. I’m with my family and friends that make everything better! All the messages I received are only giving me more strength! Thank you very much. Girls, you were awesome yesterday! I’m very proud and thank you for the support,“ Gabi Guimarães wrote on Instagram.

Her club Sesc confirmed her words and added that the recovery time for this kind of injury, which is a ruptured right knee ligament (anterior cruciate ligament), lasts approximately 8 months. It means that it will sideline her until the end of the season.

„As the procedure in these cases is, Gabi Guimarães will undergo surgical treatment and should have an estimated recovery period of 6 to 8 months. The Sesc-RJ team estimates she will be fully recovered and ready to return to the court next season,“ the Superliga titleholders published.
