#RoadToTokyo W: Outstanding defense of Stenzel puts Poland ahead of Bulgaria, easy win for “Oranje”

Poland got off the 2020 European Women’s Volleyball Olympic Qualifier in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, on the right foot.

After showing a lot of uncertainty in the 1st set, Poland rose and triumphed against Bulgaria by a 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-22) in Pool A of the 2020 European Women’s Olympic Qualification Tournament in Apeldoorn. Polish team, who’s facing the absence of several important players, will have a day off, followed by a match with the hosts of the tournament. Malwina Smarzek-Godek highlighted the winning side with 24 points, while Maria Stenzel was outstanding in defense with 93% reception (28 digs, 50% excellent)! Elitsa Vasileva scored 15 points for Bulgaria and had 76% reception (49 digs, 35% excellent). Mira Todorova made 4 kill blocks.

Steered by Robin de Kruijf (14 points, including 6 kill blocks), the Netherlands have won their first match at the Qualifying Tournament, beating Azerbaijan in straight sets. Yelyzaveta Samadova put down 18 points for the losing side, including 4 aces.
