Turkey’s VakıfBank İstanbul defeated French representatives ASPTT Mulhouse VB by a 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-18) in the second match of the second tournament of Pool C in Łódź, Poland, making it 5 out of 5. Thus, they made an unreachable gap as leaders in the standings in relation to the hosts ŁKS Commercecon Łódź of 2 wins and 7 points, securing the promotion to the quarterfinals. The Swede Isabelle Haak top-scored ‘Yellow-blacks’ with 17 points.

Defeating hosts, Russia’s  Lokomotiv Kaliningrad region, in straight sets in their 5th match in Pool D, VakıfBank’s countrymen Eczacıbaşı VitrA İstanbul secured the leadership in the pool and reached the quarterfinals. ‘The Tigers’ have 2 wins and 4 points more in relation to the closest followers, Russia’s Dinamo Moscow. Serbian Tijana Bošković scored 18 points for Eczacıbaşı.

The third club that secured promotion to the knockout stage tonight was Italy’s Savino Del Bene Scandicci. In the decisive match for the primacy of Pool A in Schwerin, Germany, the Serie A side has swept the hosts SSC Palmberg Schwerin by a 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-15) and pocketed the top spot in the pool with 4-1 and 12 points. Bulgarian Elitsa Vasileva slightly stood out on the winning side with 12 points.

Finally, one more Italian club – Igor Gorgonzola Novara and one Polish – Grupa Azoty Chemik Police have advanced to the quarterfinals – both from Pool E. Their head-to-head encounter tomorrow will determine which one will go as the pool leader and which one as the best second-ranked team across all pools, i.e. not seeded.

Recall that in January, Italy’s A. Carraro Imoco Conegliano secured their spot in the top 8.
