The Netherlands took care of completely spoiling Sweden’s notable start to the 2021 CEV Women’s Volleyball European Championship.
The Netherlands, which has just secured the promotion to the playoffs of the CEV Women’s EuroVolley 2021 from as second-placed side in Pool D in Cluj-Napoca (Romania), prevented Sweden from going there from the third position in the charts. ’Oranje’ swept the Scandinavian side 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-13). Mostly thanks to Nika Daalderop, who scored 15 points against Sweden (three straight defeats, followed by two wins), the Dutch side sealed No.2 in the pool with 12 points (4-1). Ukraine no longer needs to beat Romania in Pool D closing later on to secure third place – now it definitely belongs to it.
Germany did its share in the fight for second place in Pool B in Plovdiv (Bulgaria). The ’Butterflies’ achieved a straight-set win over Spain, partially 25-13, 25-17, and 25-21, in which Kimberly Drewniok tallied 21 points and Anna Pogany made 76 % reception (17 digs, one error, 24 % excellent), and now awaits the outcome of the remaining match in the pool between the host nation and Poland. In case the latter prevails, Germany will keep No.2.
