The 44th meeting of the AVC Board of Administration was held via Zoom, and among other topics, the decision to postpone one of the planned volleyball competitions was announced. It was the decision to cancel the Asian Senior Women’s Championship, which is scheduled for the end of August, and the decision to set a new competition date for May 2022.

“Unfortunately, we have to cancel the Asian Senior Championships that were originally scheduled to be held in the Philippines in August. The AVC headquarters and the Philippines have been instructed to move the championship to October, but that period would affect the FIVB calendar. So, it seemed that this year’s Asian Senior Championships would not be able to be held, so we decided instead to put the aforementioned championship in May 2022. If the situation with COVID-19 and the pandemic is still present next year, we will have to consider each case separately and decide whether we can move on or not,” says Dr Eom Han-Joo from Korea, president of the AVC Sports Events Council.

For now, the other competitions planned for September and October are not been affected by this decision and have not been canceled (Asian Men’s Championship, Asian Women’s Club Championship and Asian Men’s Club Championship).
