CEV CUP M: Monza beat Zagreb at home and will face Ankara in the next round

by WoV

CEV home debut for Massimo Eccheli’s Vero Volley Monza that beat Mladost Zagreb on the return match of the 16th Finals of the CEV Cup 2022 and booked a spot on the next round of the competition.

Monza had won the first leg match 3-1 in Croatia with a solid performance today they needed to win just two sets to go through the next round. Eccheli’s team, came from a weekend without matches in the SuperLega Credem Banca, thanks to the rest period scheduled for the tenth round, therefore the team had a few days to prepare for the challenge against Zagreb.

The Croatian team entered the court motivated to overturn the series and play the golden set but Monza gave them no chance. Zagreb played a great first set especially on the attack with a stunning 61% percentage of attack this allowed them to win it and start thinking of an upset, but Monza was nowhere near to giving up and went out to the court confident to earn the ticket to the next round. Eccheli’s team raised the level and showed a great attacking display with an overall 52% proficiency and kept a good rhythm throughout the match. The top scorer of the home team was wing spiker Donovan Dzavoronok with 15 points while the Croatians were middle blocker Kruno Nikacevic with 14 points. The ‘’Brianzoli’’ will now face the Turkish team of SK Ankara in the next round.
