After taking the trophies in this competition in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, Trentino have managed to win their fifth gold medal in 2018, by defeating Lube in the final 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18)
Trentino had a much better game opening, playing at a high level in the first set. Simply, Lube couldn’t find a way for Trentino’s outside hitters, who were performing well in defense as well in the offense.
In the second set, Lube managed to stabilize their own game and to answer back by winning this part of the game 25-22!
The third set was very uncertain. Both sides played well until 18:18 when Angelo Lorenzetti’s side created a 5-1 scoring run to take the lead in sets 2-1!
The head coach of Lube Giampaolo Medei tried to make some changes, at the position of setter, by giving a chance to Stijn D’hulst. However, it helped in the fourth set but only until the middle of this part of the game.

Simply, Uros Kovacevic with some powerful serves and attacks, Aaron Russell with some crazy spikes, have totally destroyed Lube’s game, that had to surrender in front of Trentino this evening in Czechostowa.
The main reason for Lube’s failure is poor displays of their outside hitters, Osmany Juantorena and Yoandy Leal. They’ve been stopped and Trentino’s team is guilty of it!
The top scorer of the game was Aaron Russell, who received the MVP award as well, with 20 points. Uros Kovacevic contributed with 16 points, Luca Vettori and Srecko Lisinac added 12 each, Davide Candellaro had 10 points.
In Lube, Tsvetan Sokolov had 17, Simon Robertlandy 14 and Osmany Juantorena 11.

The best I’ve seen Trentino played so far, they dominated Lube. Aaron Russell is becoming a force to be reckon with, Jenia was superb as always, Uros was great, Lisinac and Candellero was unstoppable, Vettori was consistently good and Gianelli was amazing running the offense.
Trentino seems to be really tight. They play smart and very hard for each other. Their defensive schemes are excellent. Well coached
