Japan-vs-Russia

Japan beat Russia in a world-level tournament for the first time after two years (3-2 in the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix), extending the rival’s losing streak to three games. This means that Russia equaled their longest losing streak in the Nations League and are now at the penultimate spot in the standings after five games played. They can even drop to the last place out of 16 teams before the last day of the second week in case Bulgaria beat the Netherlands in Pool 8 tonight. Risa Shinnabe and Yuki Ishii scored 17 points each for Japan who were victorious today despite being behind in the block (5-12) and in service (4-8).  Margarita Kurilo tallied 22 points for Russia, while Angelina Lazarenko set up 4 kill blocks.

Turkey

Turkey

Turkey made up to their fans in Ankara for suffering a straight-set loss to Japan yesterday, for which even their head coach Giovanni Guidetti publicly apologized via Twitter. With a furious display, Turkey beat Germany by a 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-15), having a chance to finish the second week with a positive score in case they beat Russia tomorrow. Turkey were too strong for Germany, especially in the block (12-3). For the first time in these five games, Meryem Boz stood out as the top scorer for Turkey as she noted 17 points. Louisa Lippmann scored 14 for Germany.
