In the big derby that closed Week 1 of the 2021 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League, the USA downed Brazil.

Brazil reacted in the third set but lost to the United States at the closing of the first week in the 2021 Women’s VNL in the Rimini bubble, Italy: 3-1 (25-17, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22).

The team coached by Karch Kiraly goes on the first break in the tournament with all three wins, confirming the role of the biggest favorites to claim the title. Brazil, on the other hand, ended Week 1 with two wins and one loss. Sarah Wilhite highlighted the USA with 25 points. Fernanda Rodrigues ‘Fê Garay’ scored 18 points for Brazil.

Given the roster with which Serbia came to Rimini, a 2-1 record at the start of the competition probably exceeded the expectations of their fans. In a duel of the two teams that compete with “B” squads, the reigning world and European champions downed Italy in four sets, inflicting the third defeat in as many games to ‘Azzurrine’.

Katarina Lazović top-scored Serbia with 18 points. Sylvia Nwakalor was by far the most prominent figure on the losing side with 24 points.
