Brazil has had difficulties against the Germans but came to victory within Pool 1 in Shreveport-Bossier City, USA, in its first match in the 2022 FIVB Women’s VNL. The head coach José Roberto Guimarães ’Zé Roberto’ introduced several newcomers to the team in the competition that opens the Olympic cycle.

In a fresh start for the ’Seleção’, not everything went in the best way. However, thanks to the highlight of the game, the debutant Julia Bergmann, Brazil managed to impose itself to beat Germany 3-1. The young outside hitter from NCAA left the court as the highest scorer, with 19 points. Ana Carolina Silva ’Carol’ was notable in blocking (6 points).

Pool 1 hosts, the United States, began their 2022 FIVB Volleyball Nations League campaign with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-18) victory over the Dominican Republic. The US Women are the competition’s 3-time defending champions and the world’s top-ranked team.

Opposite hitter Jordan Thompson ended the match with 15 points, sharing the top scorer’s recognition with 2 more players on her team who had the same number of points on their accounts: Sarah Wilhite and Alexandra Frantti. Thompson, one of two Tokyo Olympic gold medalists on the current US squad, has been recovering from an injury she sustained during the Olympic Games. Thompson was out for the majority of the previous 10 months due to a severe right ankle injury, so her successful return will please both head coach Karch Kiraly and US fans ahead of the FIVB World Championship.
