Brazil and Greece delivered contrasting but memorable victories at the 2025 Women’s Volleyball World Championship in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
The Brazilian squad showed resilience after dropping the first two sets against France, storming back to claim a 3-2 win (21-25, 20-25, 25-15, 25-20, 15-13). Led by Gabi and Julia Bergmann, Brazil tightened its defense and regained control in the third set before edging out the tie-break. France’s captain Hélène Cazaute stood out with 20 points, and Iman Ndiaye added 18 but it wasn’t enough to stop the South American powerhouse from staying unbeaten in Pool C.
Earlier in the day, Greece ended a 23-year drought at the World Championship with a 3-1 victory over Puerto Rico (25-19, 25-13, 23-25, 25-14). Opposite Martha Evdokia Anthouli scored 27 points to guide her team to a historic milestone, supported by Olga Strantzali and Effrosyni Bakodimou.
The results leave Brazil on the brink of topping their group ahead of Tuesday’s match against Puerto Rico, while Greece will face France in a decisive clash for a spot in the round of 16.
