
Türkiye secured the final ticket to the women’s volleyball World Championship quarterfinals after defeating Slovenia 3-0. The European champions faced a tougher battle than the scoreline suggests, with Slovenia pushing them to the limit in the first and third sets, which ended 30-28 and 29-27.
The opening set ended 30-28 after Slovenia wasted two set points, while the third finished 29-27, with captain Eda Erdem sealing victory with a serve ace. The second set was more straightforward, as Türkiye dominated 25-13.
Slovenia showed courage and determination, even holding set points in the opener, but Melissa Vargas once again proved decisive. The Cuban-born Turkish star collected 20 points, supported by captain Eda Erdem’s late-game leadership. Despite Slovenia’s spirited performance, including strong displays from Fatomatta Sillah and Eva Zatković (15 points each), Türkiye depth and composure made the difference.
