Two days after International Olympic Committe (IOC) made a decision not to ban Russian athletes to compete at the Rio Olympics due to alleged state-sponsored doping program, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) issued their announcement on this.

„The FIVB recognizes and respects the decision taken by the Executive Board of the IOC on the participation of Russian athletes at the Rio 2016 Olympics. The FIVB has a zero tolerance policy towards doping and has total confidence in its anti-doping system. The FIVB procedure is fully compatible with the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) code and will continue carrying out its rigorous and tough anti-doping procedures. Russian athletes were tested at the same level as athletes from all the other countries and most of the analyzes of Russian athletes testing were conducted outside of Russia. The FIVB will continue its close collaboration with WADA in order to follow up on the decision of the Executive Board of the IOC. The FIVB remains 100% committed to protecting the clean athletes and will take immediate steps to suspend any athletes who have violated anti-doping rules,“ FIVB recated on IOC decision.

The FIVB already did a first step in conducting above mentioned measures by not allowing Aleksandr Markin to play in Rio
