’Vakif’ swept current Brazilian and also South American title holders Rexona-Sesc in the finals of the 2017 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Club World Championship, in Kobe, Japan, 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-21).
Thus, VakıfBank became the first-ever team to win CEV Champions League and Club World Championship trophy in the same year TWICE (2013, 2017)! Besides Giovanni Gudetti’s side, three more teams did it, but only once – Teodora Ravenna from Italy (1992), Dinamo Kazan from Russia (2014) and Eczacıbaşı VitrA İstanbul from Turkey (2015).
As for the final match in Kobe, ’Vakif’ gave no chance to the team coached by Bernardo Rezende, who certainly won’t be happy with this outcome, especially with the level of commitment of his players.
Chinese Zhu Ting scored 19 while American Kimberly Hill had 13 points for the winning side. Monique Pavão was the only player with double digits in Rexona, noting 10 points.
