WCH U23 W: Turkey win first-ever gold medal by beating hosts Slovenia in the finals, Hande Baladın MVP

Turkey was crowned the winners of the 2017 FIVB Women’s Volleyball U23 World Championship in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

The Turkish National Team won their first-ever gold medal at the U23 World Champs in the third edition of the tournament, that was now played under the new experimental scoring system of the best-of-seven sets and up to 15 points, by beating the hosts Slovenia 4-0 (15-12, 15-11, 15-13, 15-8).

Thus, Turkey improved their result from the previous edition of the tournament when they claimed the silver medal.

The receiver of VakıfBank İstanbul, Ebrar Karakurt, topped Turkey with 13 points in the finals, while Nova KBM Branik Maribor opposite Iza Mlakar scored nine points for Slovenia.

Best Outside Hitters: Hande Baladın (Turkey), Madeline Guillén (Dominican Republic)

Best Setter: Eva Mori (Slovenia)

Best Opposite: Iza Mlakar (Slovenia)
