Dominican Republic – USA 0-3 (20-25, 23-25, 21-25)
USA won again and this time Kimberly Hill was the main scorer against the Dominican Republic. She scored 16 points while Lauren Gibbemeyer followed her with 11 points. Brayelin Elizabeth Martinez again led the Dominican team with 19 points and now she has 120 points in total during this 8 games. Her teammates Yonkaira Peña Isabel finished the match with 13 points.
Interesting that USA have won their last 13 matches against the Dominican Republic since 2006!
“Congratulations to the Dominican Republic, they really pushed us today. I’m just really proud of our team for just grinding in this tournament. It was a tough game but every day we just try to get better and better. We’re excited to face Thailand tomorrow and in front of their home crowd. The Thai fans are awesome. It’s such an amazing environment to play in“ said USA’s captain Jordan Larson-Burbach.
Argentina – Italy 0-3 (15-25, 16-25, 18-25)
Italy scored their third victory in VNL and today expectedly against Argentina. The match was quite calm and two Italian blockers were the best scorers of the match. Cristina Chirichella scored 11 points (5 bl) while Anna Danesi 8 points (3 bl). Who else than Anahi Florenca Tosi scored the most points in the Argentine team (9).
Italy captain Chirichella said after the match: “We did very well today and we are proud of our performance. We did our best and everyone can see it.” On the other side, Argentina coach Guillermo Orduna said: “Congratulations Italy for winning today. Today we did not play well. We made a lot of mistakes in reception, serves and attack. Our team is a young team and the players need to improve for the next matches.”
Thailand- Germany 2-3 (23-25, 26-28, 25-23, 25-22, 10-15)
After victory over Brazil in the opening match of VNL and than six consecutive defeats, Germany today scored new points. They outplayed Thailand in the tie-break but remain at the 15th position.
Louisa Lippmann scored 24 points in a brilliant display of power while Maren Brinker Fromm added 20 points for Germany. On the other side, Ajcharaporn Kongyot scored 22 points and once again was the top scorer of the home team.
Marie Schölzel and Lisa Gründing put 6 blocks each during these five sets.
China – Japan 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-17)
Zhu Ting led China to the new victory in VNL and today in the Asian derby they were much stronger. Interesting that China won today thanks to the great block – 12! While Japan were without points from this element.
Zhu scored 19 points and Xiangyu Gong 10 points (6 bl) for China while Ai Kurogo scored 17 points and Mami Uchiseto 13 points for Japan.
Poland – Brazil 0-3 (20-25, 20-25, 23-25)
Tandara Alves Caixeta once again led Brazil to the victory in Apeldoorn. This time Brazil outplayed Poland and she scored 21 points while Ana Beatriz Correa scored 14 points (4 bl).
On the other side, Malwina Smarzek did all her best but that wasn’t enough. She at the end finished the match with 18 points helped by Agnieszka Kakolewska 10 points.
Turkey – Russia 2-3 (23-25, 25-19, 25-23, 20-25, 11-15)
In an amazing match in Kraljevo, Russia stopped Turkey with high block and scored the fifth victory in VNL. On the other side, Turkey suffered their second loss.
Ekaterina Lyubushkina (16) led the blockers over Turkey, she scored 8 blocks in total, while her team scored 22 blocks. Irina Voronkova was the best scorer with 20 points and Natalia Malykh claimed 16 points.
Interesting, captain Eda Erdem Dundar with 16 (3 bl) was top scorer of her team.
Netherlands – Korea 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-12)
In front of a home crowd, the Netherlands scored the seventh win in total in VNL. They crushed South Korea in only three sets and Lonneke Slöetjes once again was the leader. She scored 16 points while Anne Buijs 10 points. This tandem plays each game on the top level and for now, they are the main key of the team. On the other side, Korea couldn’t better without Kim Yeon-Koung. Jeong-Ah Park scored 7 points and she was the best in her team. This was the third consecutive loss for an Asian team.
Serbia – Belgium 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 14-25)
Serbia were without mercy against Belgium. They closed Day 2 with straight sets victory, the seventh in total.
This time Brankica Mihajlović was the key player, she scored 16 points while Bojana Milenković finished with 13 points. On the Belgium side, Celine Van Gestel was the best with 9 points followed by Britt Herbots who this time scored only 8 points.
Coach Zoran Terzić played with mixed players who cleverly used their chances. The best blocker in the winning team was setter Bojana Živkovićwho put 3 blocks.
