Béziers recorded a valuable win in the second round of the 2019/20 Ligue A regular season. The “Angels“ swept one of the title favorites Saint-Raphaël on the road by a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-19) and are unbeaten so far. Just like in the opening round, Béziers were led by an American outside hitter Malina Terrell (19 points).
Runners-up Nantes have written down their second win of the season. In a thrilling encounter on the road, they defeated Pays d’Aix Venelles. Driven by the summer recruits, German Katharina Schwabe (Dresdner SC, Germany) who tallied 27 points and American Lindsey Vander Weide (Oregon University Ducks) who scored 26 points and made 83% reception (35 digs), Nantes recorded an important win in the tie-break: 3-2 (25-18, 28-30, 25-18, 21-25, 15-12). Russian international Eli Uattara top-scored for Venelles with 21 points, making 86% reception (37 digs).
Le Cannet noted their first victory in the new season. Multiple Swiss titleholders (under the name Volero Zürich) prevailed over the only French top division newcomers in the 2019/20, Terville Florange. The team coached by an Italian expert Lorenzo Micelli squandered 2-0 lead in sets but came back in the tie-break: 3-2 (25-15, 25-16, 23-25, 21-25, 15-10). Russian outside hitter Anna Lazareva, who came to Le Cannet this summer from Dinamo Moscow, Russia, scored game-high 31 points. It was also the best individual output in the second round in general. Terville Florange were led by Portuguese Júlia Kavalenka and Estonian Polina Bratuhhina-Pitou (a member of the club for a full decade) who scored 18 points apiece.
