Terville Florange Olympique Club and LISSP CALAIS won the women’s and men’s tournament respectively for the first time since its inception.
Actually the crowd was left a bit disappointed as going into the last round of play Luxembourg men’s national team (see picture) still stood a good chance to seize the trophy but they lost 2:3 to Germany’s youth national team after dissipating a 2:0 lead (25-19, 25-23, 15-25, 23-25, and 10-15).
This result paved the way with gold for LISSP CALAIS that had opened the program on Sunday by routing USA Steven Ducks in straight sets (25-19, 25-17, and 25-18). CALAIS won gold with Luxembourg and Germany completing the podium in second and third place respectively.
Terville Florange Olympique Club – the club where the late Denitza Krivova used to play before her premature death in 2008 – completed a clean sweep of their matches in the women’s tournament routing Germany’s U16 national team in straight sets (25-22, 25-21, and 25-20).
Luxembourg did lose also their last match of the competition to Azerbaijan (15-25, 23-25, and 19-25) and in the end had to be content with fourth place.
