In a gripping start to the new volleyball season, SWD powervolleys Düren secured a narrow 3:2 victory over rival SVG Lüneburg in front of 2,000 ecstatic fans at the Arena Kreis Düren. The set scores were 25-20, 25-21, 20-25, 18-25, 15-13, reflecting the intense back-and-forth battle.
Düren surged ahead early, taking the first two sets with solid attacking and defense led by new setter Gregor Pernuš. However, Lüneburg fought back with powerful serves and strong defense in sets three and four, pushing the match to a thrilling tiebreak.
In the final set, Düren regained composure, clinching victory after a decisive block and a Lüneburg service error. Coach Christophe Achten praised his team’s resilience, while Lüneburg’s coach Stefan Hübner expressed satisfaction with his team’s fightback despite the loss.
In the second match of the day, Helios GRIZZLYS Giesen secured an away victory, defeating VCO Berlin 3-0.
