“I am very happy because at least one match on the first week,” German captain Margareta Kozuch said. “Today our team spirit was great and our substitutes did their jobs well. Overall, we were so much up and down this week. We will train more and more and bring better results the rest of the Intercontinental Round.”

This team spirit that Kozuch was talking about is what supports the German winning mechanism.

“I was afraid of losing the fighting spirit of our team after two consecutive defeats,” Germany coach Giovanni Guidetti said. “Fortunately, we really wanted to win and get out of that pit. Thailand are strong. If they played with higher level in this match, we would not win today.”

Even Thailand coach Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai commended the German fighting spirit and counted fatigue from their five-setter with Serbia as a factor in their poor performance in the match.

“The players of this German team are brilliant,” Kiattipong said. “Their strong spirit made them win the match. On the other hand, my players were so down and made many mistakes. I think they were so tired from yesterday’s intense match. They will get better after a sufficient break.”

“The German team’s service was so great,” Thai captain Wilavan Apinyapong added. “We could not manage to return their strong serves. Also, some of the players have not recovered from yesterday’s game with Serbia. They are still tired. Maybe after taking some rest, we will have better performance next week.”
