Having scored two wins against Jihostroj CESKE BUDEJOVICE (3-0) and the four-time national champion of Montenegro versus only one defeat against Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK (1-3), the side of BERLIN has successfully completed the first half of this year’s Champions League season being ranked second in Pool B. Unbeaten in Germany’s Bundesliga and topping the standings there, the 2012 German national champion have experienced a tough loss as the team of head coach Mark Lebedew was outdone by Generali UNTERHACHING in the German cup competition.
All the more the team from Germany’s capital turned its focus to Europe’s most prestigious club competition. Having set the goal of making it to the round of last twelve clubs right from the start of this year’s campaign, the CEV Volleyball Champions League now has become even more important. Successfully coming through the prelims is not an easy job, though. Especially for the up-coming game against BUDVA, Mark Lebedew expects an even tighter match: “The home advantage will of course make a difference on Wednesday. I expect them to give our team a hard time”, the Australian says, adding: “However, we now know what to expect from BUDVA. So there won’t be that many surprises anymore”.
Team captain Scott Touzinsky is also aware of this match’s importance: “To make it to the next round, we need every single point”, the 2008 Olympic champion says. “The first half of the prelims is over, now we want to give our best to make it to the round of the last twelve clubs.” Despite all travel strain tiredness after ten matches in 32 days, the US-American can’t wait for the up-coming matches: “I so look forward to all the new international challenges”.
