If there was some national team that failed expectations in the 2018 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League, it was Italy. The “Azzurri” did not make it to the Final Six but will have a chance to redeem in the FIVB World Championship in September in front of own fans.

Osmany Juantorena is one of the players from which Italian fans expect a lot in the upcoming World Champs. He is aware that the “Azzurri” cannot be considered favorites in the tournament after underachieving in the Nations League.

“We now have six weeks to prepare better for this beautiful tournament. We won’t go there as favorites and, perhaps, it will be even better this way. Now, our journey has begun and I’m sure that Blengini and the staff will bring us to the best shape on September 9 for the debut with Japan,” Juantorena said to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Cuban-born knows what went wrong in the Nations League…

“Blengini fairly changed a lot every weekend. Overall, we could do better. We wanted to get to the Final Six, but we didn’t make it and missed our goal. In hindsight, the match against the hosts Argentina weighed most above all. We have room for improvement. Now, the group is complete and here in Cavalese we have everything we need to do our best every day,” the outside hitter stated.
