Banca Valsabbina Millenium Brescia defeated European champions Igor Gorgonzola Novara by a 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 28-30, 15-13) on the road in the second round of the 2019/20 Lega Pallavolo Serie A Femminile regular season! Brescia was led by sparkling Camilla Mingardi. The outside hitter, who turned 22 yesterday and came to Brescia from Zanetti Bergamo this summer, poured in 37 points! Canadian middle blocker Kelsey Veltman, who is playing her first professional season, made 5 kill blocks for the winning team. Novara’s coaching staff will have an extra worry in addition to a defeat. The backup opposite hitter Iza Mlakar, who was promoted to a starter due to injury of Serbian Jovana Brakočević-Canzian, had to leave the court after only a few rallies. Slovenian landed badly on the foot of her teammate Cristina Chirichella, injuring her right foot. Exactly Chirichella was Novara’s top scorer today with 26 points, including as much as 13 kill blocks!

Lardini Filottrano were unable to recover from a poor start of the match (11 errors in the first set and only 11 points won) against champions Imoco Volley Conegliano. Even the fact that Paola Egonu’s attacks were not as precise as usual (12 points, 44% attack) did not help the home side. Miriam Sylla scored 12 points for Novara as well.

After eight years, Bartoccini Fortinfissi Perugia hosted the Serie A match. However, they remained winless after two games in the competition. The newcomers fell to Èpiù Pomì Casalmaggiore but not without fighting: 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 25-17). Casalmaggiore were driven by American opposite hitter Danielle Cuttino, who scored 24 points.
