Italian men’s volleyball club Gas Sales Piacenza made another transfer hit as it assured the signing of the American star Aaron Russell for the next season.

The 27-year-old US National Team member Russell, one of the best outside hitters on the world volleyball scene, joined Piacenza and complemented their 2020/21 lineup that will consist of big names: Grozer, Clévenot, Antonov…

Russell is quite familiar with competing in the SuperLega. In the last five years in Italy, he contributed to the Sir Safety Conad Perugia’s path toward winning the championship, Cup, and Super Cup – all in 2017/18. Russell spent the last two seasons in Itas Trentino with which he won the 2018 FIVB Club World Championship and the 2019 CEV Cup.

All these successes on a club level came after two gold medals which he claimed with the US National Team: in the 2015 FIVB World Cup and the 2017 NORCECA Championship.

Individually, the three most important Russell’s awards are the Rio Olympics Best Outside Spiker, the 2018 FIVB Club World Championship MVP, and the 2019 USA’s Player of the Year.

Eyes of the volleyball world are shifted to newcomer Piacenza with massive roster moves. Grozer, Clevenot and now getting the prime years of a star like Russell is a very significant upgrade.
