The female volleyball player more known in the volleyball world by her beauty than by successes on the court, Sabina Altynbekova, made a huge professional leap that might be a turning point in her career.

Italy’s top division side Golden Tulip Volalto 2.0 Caserta, the last-placed in the last regular season, announced signing the ex-Kazakhstan National Team member Altynbekova after long negotiations. The 23-year-old “Miss volleyball”, who has nearly one million followers on Instagram, committed herself to the SuperLega side for two years.

Altynbekova went out of the anonymity during the 2014 U19 Asian Championship in Taiwan. At the time, she was 17 years old. Aside from her talent for volleyball, she was the star of the tournament and was awarded the title of the most fascinating volleyball player. So much attention bothered the head coach of her national team a lot but also herself.

However, after the championship, a wave of popularity practically overwhelmed Altynbekova: Asian television channels started broadcasting shows about her, the Internet is chock full of her photos, while the number of her social media followers has increased in a short time. For instance, Altynbekova now has 948,000 followers on Instagram, while videos of her on YouTube are viewed by four million users daily. Altynbekova launched her own sports fashion brand, S20.

She was predicted to make a successful career abroad but apart from two short adventures (GSS Tokyo Sunbeams, Japan’s second division, 2015; and Al Wasl, UAE, 2018), she spent her entire career at home in Kazakhstan, more precisely in Almaty.
