After failing to complete the transfer of Bulgarian Elitsa Vasileva, Perugia reacted by contracting an experienced Cuban player Kenia Carcaces. The 34-year-old outside hitter came exactly from the club to which Vasileva went – VBC Èpiù Casalmaggiore – where she spent the last two seasons.
A former Cuba National Team member tallied many trophies during her career, winning five championships of her home country, two Swiss Championships and Swiss Cups apiece, and one Swiss Super Cup. With the Cuba Women, Carcaces won a gold medal at the NORCECA Championship, Pan-American Cup, and Pan-American Games one time each.
Among other individual prizes, she was awarded Best Outside Hitter of the FIVB Club World Championship twice and MVP of the South American Club Championship once.
