The current Italian Men’s Volleyball Super Cup winners, Sir Safety Conad Perugia, published reaching an agreement with Matthew Anderson.

The heavy transfer bomb has been activated: The US National Team star Anderson will be a new member of Perugia. This way, the ’Block Devils’ completed their first purchase for the next season.

An experienced opposite hitter (who might return to play as an outside hitter, which is the position in the team he has been covering for most of his career) is a big name in world volleyball. A 34-year-old player can boast a rich career on three continents and many trophies won – both at the club level and with the national team. On a club level: 5 Russian Championships, 4 Russian Cups, 5 Russian Super Cups, 4 CEV Champions Leagues, and one FIVB Club World Championship; in the US Men jersey: one gold medal in the Pan American Cup (2008), 2 in the NORCECA Championship (2013 and 2017), one in the FIVB World League (2014), and one in the FIVB World Cup (2015). Additionally, Anderson has a flurry of individual awards (such as MVP in the 2015 FIVB World Cup and the 2019 VNL). He was named US Player of the Year 4 times.

Anderson returned to the Italian SuperLega after a year (Leo Shoes Modena in 2019/20) and reunited with Cuban-Polish Wilfredo León with whom he used to form a lethal duo in Zenit-Kazan between 2014 and 2018. Last season, Anderson was supposed to play in China’s Shanghai but, after the season didn’t start in October, he returned to his home country and missed the entire season, even though the championship in the Asian country finally set off at the beginning of 2021.
