ITA W: Conegliano Joins Novara at Top of Serie A1 Standings; Milano and Scandicci Close Behind

As the seventh round of Italy’s Serie A wraps up, Conegliano (having played one less match) has ascended to the top of the standings, level with Novara at 18 points each. Novara experienced a hiccup against Milan, placing them just ahead in fourth position with 14 points, a narrow margin behind Scandicci’s 16 points. On the other end of the spectrum, Bergamo sits just above the bottom, holding the second-to-last spot with 4 points, marginally ahead of Trento, who are at the bottom with 2 points.

A packed Pala Igor Allianz arena witnessed a thrilling victory for Vero Volley Milano against the home team, Igor Gorgonzola Novara. Initially struggling, Novara mounted a comeback but was unable to break through Milan’s formidable defense and impressive blocking. Spearheaded by Paola Egonu’s remarkable 30-point performance, Milano clinched a 3-1 win.

Conegliano reclaimed the top spot, matched with Novara in points, by swiftly defeating Il Bisonte Firenze in a straight 3-0 match, showcasing strong performances by Squarcini, De Kruijf, and MVP Isabelle Haak. Wash4Green Pinerolo also secured a 3-0 win over Roma Volley Club in a tightly contested match, highlighted by libero Ilenia Moro and opposite Nemeth’s standout performances.

In another notable match, UYBA Volley Busto Arsizio, under coach Velasco, overcame TrasportiPesanti Casalmaggiore 1-3, with Martina Bracchi earning her second consecutive MVP award. Despite an initial 0-2 setback, Busto Arsizio rallied back, led by Smarzek’s 19 points, to clinch the victory.

In the final match of the round, Savino Del Bene Scandicci defeated Megabox Ond. Savio Vallefoglia, marking their fourth consecutive loss. The Tuscan team dominated, with Maja Ognjenovic earning her first MVP title in Italy and leading four players to double-digit scores, including top scorer Antropova with 15 points and a formidable Ana Carolina da Silva with 13 points which included impresive 7 kill blocks.
