The USA and Italy both notched significant victories in the men’s Olympic volleyball tournament on Tuesday.
The USA triumphed over Germany in a thrilling five-set match (25-21, 25-17, 17-25, 20-25, 15-11) at the South Paris Arena. Despite a two-set lead, the Americans needed a tie-breaker to clinch the win. The USA’s 11 aces compared to Germany’s 6 proved decisive. The win puts the USA at the top of Pool C with a 2-0 record. Germany, with a 1-1 record, trails in second place.
Meanwhile, Italy dominated Egypt with a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-16, 25-20) in their Pool B match. Guided by captain Simone Giannelli, Italy remains unbeaten and leads their pool. Yuri Romano and Daniele Lavia each contributed 14 points to Italy’s victory, while Egypt’s Reda Haikal was the top scorer for his team with eight points.
