In an interview for Italian newspaper Gazzetta, the head coach Marco Bonitta confirmed that they lacked good performance of Valentina Diouf in decisive game against Russia.

“Guiggi, Chirichella and Arrighetti were on high level and were doing great things for the team. Diouf was good in the first part of the tournament but against Russia, she had a bad day and we lacked her performance. But, I think that we had a chance with Centoni and Sorokaite. Maybe, Diouf seemed tired” says Bonitta.
Recall that Russia beat Italy in quarterfinals and reached semis!
