However, the start of this campaign was not blessed with success as URBINO lost in the first round of action for Pool E to Romania’s 2004 Tomis CONSTANTA before being downed last week in straight sets by Dinamo KAZAN of Russia. Actually team captain Lucia Crisanti got seriously injured right before the start of the season, libero Stacy Sykora is struggling with some physical problems and hence to get back on track after a sloppy start also in the national league the club has signed Croatian middle blocker Iljana Dugandzic and another libero, Antonietta Vallese.
“Our club is still young in international competitions but we already made history two years ago by winning the CEV Cup” recalls President Gian Carlo Sacchi. “We are evidently proud of the wild-card we received to join the CEV Volleyball Champions League, a competition that carries also a series of organizational challenges. We are playing some of the best teams in Europe and our goal is simply to display our best. I wish our players and coaching staff the very best for the remainder of this adventure, hoping that the next rounds will contribute great moments also to our fans”.
