Talk about a comeback! Hyundai Engineering & Construction Hillstate isn’t going down without a fight. After dropping the first game of the playoff semifinals, they roared back to life with a commanding 3-0 win (25-20, 25-17, 25-22) over Daejeon JungKwanJang Red Sparks at Daejeon’s Chungmu Gymnasium.
That sets the stage for a thrilling Game 3 this Friday in Suwon — Hyundai’s home turf — where everything’s on the line. No team has ever reached the finals after losing Game 1 in the women’s playoffs… until now, maybe?
The big difference? JungKwanJang Red Sparks was without veteran setter Hye-Seon Yeum due to a knee injury from Game 1. Her absence left a noticeable gap. Backup Chae-Na Kim did her best, but the timing just wasn’t there, and the usual spark with hitters Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi and Vanja Bukilić fizzled.
On the flip side, Hyundai looked sharp. Their reception — shaky in Game 1 — tightened up, and their offense clicked. Laëtitia Moma Bassoko led the charge with 24 points, while Ji-Yun Jeong added 11 and Ye-Rim Go chipped in 8.
JungKwanJang Red Sparks tried to mount a late push in the third set, narrowing the gap to 19-20, but Hyundai held firm. With their home crowd behind them in Game 3, they’ll be aiming to rewrite playoff history.
