Mexico has booked a spot in the semifinals of the Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the nineteenth Pan American Games Santiago 2023. The team defeated Puerto Rico in a dominating 3-0 victory (25-17, 25-17, 25-14) in quarterfinal match at the Parque O’Higgins Arena.
This accomplishment is particularly notable for Mexico, as the nation hasn’t managed to secure a medal in the Pan American Games since their bronze-winning performance in 1975. Awaiting them in the semifinals is a clash against either powerhouse Brazil or the formidable Dominican Republic. The deciding factor will be the impending match between Argentina and Chile.
In the semifinals, they will go head-to-head with the world volleyball powerhouse, Brazil’s team.
Mexico’s Grecia Castro continues to be a force to reckon with, delivering 22 points in the match. Further bolstering Mexico’s offense were Karen Rivera and Aimé Topete, contributing 15 and 13 points respectively. On Puerto Rico’s side, outside hitter Ivania Ortiz stood out, accumulating 14 points for her team.
