Lausanne UC repeated the success from the last season to win the national title once again. The unstable regular season campaign provided them only the third seed for the playoffs (16-5, 47 points). But, Lausanne got a pace just in time – they won seven games in a row at the end of the regular season and then added seven more, sweeping quarterfinal, semifinal, and final series of the NLA Volleyball League Men 2018/2019 playoffs!
With a hard-fought win (3-2: 20-25, 25-23, 25-22, 18-25, 15-11) on the road in Game 3 of the finals against the top seed Volley Amriswil, Lausanne were crowned back-to-back Swiss titleholders which is the ninth championship title in the club history. The Italian head coach Massimiliano Giaccardi had to direct his team in the final series from a wheelchair after undergoing an urgent knee operation!
The Norweigan Jonas Kvalen was the best scorer for Lausanne in Game 3 with 23 points. Karim Zerika made 91% attack (10/11, blocked once) while Puerto Rican Dennis Del Valle made 80% positive reception (20 total, one error, 55% excellent). The Dutch outside hitter Ewoud Gommans scored 20 points for Amriswil.
