SAMEN.Lycurgus has conquered the national volleyball cup (nationale beker) for the second time in history. The team from Groningen beat Draisma Dynamo in the final in Den Bosch by a 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 28-26, 30-28).

Dynamo had a misfortune to lose their starting middle blocker Maikel van Zeist in the first set due to an ankle injury. Because of the injuries that occurred prior to the match, there were no more middle blockers in Dynamo registered for the encounter, so their head coach Redbad Strikwerda had to use outside hitter Wessel Blom and opposite hitter Nico Manenschijn on this position. In the league, Lycurgus already lost twice to Dynamo this season, so today’s victory healed most of their wounds.
