Imoco Volley Conegliano emerged victorious from the classic of the Italian Women’s Volleyball Championship against Igor Gorgonzola Novara.

The leaders Imoco kept the safe distance to the nearest followers in the charts after beating visiting Novara in the “classica” of the Lega Pallavolo Serie A Femminile, valid for Round 19 of the regular season: 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-18). Imoco recorded 9th successive win in Serie A, 15th successive win including all competitions.

Somehow, this duel, held at soldout PalaVerde (5,344 spectators) had a lower value than in the recent past due to the fact that Novara, while remaining a team at the very top of the standings and reigning European champions, is no longer the toughest opponent to Imoco. The charts clearly prove this: Novara are third-placed with 16 points less than Imoco and 10 points less than the second-placed Unet E-Work Busto Arsizio (swept Golden Tulip Volalto 2.0 Caserta on the road). Furthermore, Imoco won all three mutual encounters with Novara, so far (two in the Serie A and one in the Super Cup).

Novara’s ex-player Paola Egonu top-scored for Imoco with 15 points today, while the Dutchwoman Robin de Kruijf made 5 kill blocks.
