Voley Plus brought exclusive news: for personal and professional reasons, Marcelo Méndez will step down from the head coach position in Argentina Men’s National Team and Brazilian club Sada Cruzeiro Vólei. He’ll return to Argentina and take charge of Bolívar Voley. Furthermore, this will open the door for Julio Velasco to take over the bench of Cruzeiro as he decided he wants to leave his mark in Brazilian volleyball.
It is said that when legendary expert Javier Weber left Bolívar and became the head coach of Brazil’s EMS Taubaté Funvic, a few months ago, the management of Bolívar decided to withdraw from the Argentine top division, exactly because they failed to hire Méndez, whom they saw as the leader of the project for the next five years. Now, the founder of Bolívar, Marcelo Tinelli called Méndez again. What nobody imagined is that Velasco has agreed to replace Méndez in Cruzeiro, given that he’s in the coaching retirement.
This would be an amazing turn of events for volleyball in South America if it wasn’t something that was published on December 28, on The Day of the Holy Innocents (Día de los Santos Inocentes) – a traditional day of making jokes in this part of the world 🙂
