The Panasonic Panthers and Suntory Sunbirds each recorded the 5th successive win in the 2020/21 Japanese Men’s Volleyball Championship.

The Panasonic Panthers (Kunihiro Shimizu 18 points) swept the JT Thunders Hiroshima in Round 19 of the 2020/21 Japanese Men’s V.League Division 1 regular season: 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-13).

The Hirakata team recorded the fifth successive win in the competition but couldn’t top the charts given that leaders Wolfdogs Nagoya also achieved the victory. Led by the Pole Bartosz Kurek (25 points), they beat the champions JTEKT Stings for the second time in just two days (3-0: 25-18, 25-22, 25-13) and are still one point ahead of the Panthers in the standings (41 vs 40).

What might worry the Stings fans, who suffered the 5th defeat in a row, even more, is the fact that two teams (Sakai Blazers and JT Thunders Hiroshima) are now tied with them at 27 points, so the titleholders put fourth place in jeopardy.

Thanks to Russian Dimitriy Muserskiy (33 points), third-placed Suntory Sunbirds downed Toray Arrows on the road in four sets and remained at +10 in relation to the Stings. It was their 5th successive victory.
