Team King (Orange) won their first match in the 2021 Women’s Athletes Unlimited Volleyball. Led by Dominican Bethania de la Cruz (21 kills, 8 digs, and 2 blocks), they overcame the opening defeat and beat Team Clark (Blue) by 68-65 in cumulative points. It was 2-1 in sets, partially 18-25, 25-22, and 25-18, after which they earned 140 points.
As for De la Cruz, who was voted MVP 1, she tied the record output of Leah Edmond, her rival today, of 430 points overall (230 stat points, 60 points for MVP 1, and 140 points for her team’s win). The outside hitter from the Caribbean made 12 kills in 3rd set alone. De la Cruz had support in Corissa Crocker, who earned the MVP 2 award, finishing the match with an overall of 285 points. Cassidy Lichtman stood out on the losing side with 189 overall points.
Team Sybeldon (Purple) are at 2-0 after two days of the competition. After dropping the first set to Team Cruz (Gold), the squad captained by Lianna Sybeldon bounced back and took the next two (23-25, 25-17, 25-23) for the cumulative score win of 73-65, earning 140 points.
The main star of the team, Jordan Larson, was once again on the high level. The US National Team captain made 14 kills, 1 assist, 10 digs, and 1 block, and earned MVP 1 award. All that, plus the win of her team, brought her 333 points. She’s currently at the top of the leaderboard with 702 total points. The MVP 2 award and additional points accordingly went into the hands of Mallory McCage from Team Cruz. She made 8 kills, 2 digs, and 6 blocks. In total, she got 210 points, most in her team. Sybeldon got the MVP 3 award.
