The pre-event press conference was the kick-off for six exciting games in one of the toughest pools of the European Championship – Women with two contenders for a medal (Germany and Turkey), a growing team from the Netherlands and an outsider from Spain. “We will try to enjoy every match because we know that we are playing in a very strong pool”, said Francisco Hervas. He is happy that his team is one of the sixteen teams at EuroVolley 2013: “We did an excellent job in the qualification and it is wonderful that we can be here.”
In contrast to this, the head coach of the Netherlands Gido Vermeulen looks back on a long preparation: “We had a five-month preparation and built up a new team. It is nice for us to play here. We know that it is a very strong pool. If we reach the next round it will be a success for us.”
More than the next round is the aim of the Turkish team, although they didn’t play very well their last games. “We know that our preparation wasn’t very good and we didn’t reach the final stage of the Grand Prix. However, now we want to do our best in every match”, said Massimo Barbolini.
Finally, Germany`s head coach Giovanni Guidetti spoke about his team: “We are in a good condition and did an excellent preparation. We are very happy to be in Halle/Westphalia now. I hope we can exploit the home advantage and use the energy of our fans”.
In reply to the question which team is the favorite for the 2013 crown, the four Pool A coaches agreed that Serbia might be the strongest team.
