Tianjin, which didn’t suffer a single defeat during the first and second stage of the 2021 China Telecom National Championship, and did it even without their main star Zhu Ting (injury) and Cuban Melissa Vargas (arrived before the start of the competition but never made her debut), lost to Shanghai (4w-2d in the first and second stage) in the do-or-die playoff semi-finals – 1-3 (22-25, 19-25, 31-29, 23-25). Shanghai were led today by Liu Zhening (22 points). Chen Boya, the young opposite hitter, tallied 32 for Tianjin and continued with her great performance in the league.

Yes, they have the role of the vice-champions, but the elimination of Jiangsu from Shandong was no surprise whatsoever. The latter are undefeated and remained so after today’s encounter in which they prevailed in four sets. Du Qingqing put down 24 points for Shandong, while Cao Tingting set up four blocks. Zhou Yetong scored 18 points and Yuan Xinyue made five blocks for Jiangsu.

The Shanghai vs Shandong finale is scheduled for tomorrow, October 28. On the same day, Tianjin and Jiangsu will vie for the bronze medal.
