Star-studded Shanghai was ruthless on Huangshi at the start of the 2022-23 Chinese Men’s Volleyball Championship.
Shanghai smashed Huangshi 3-0, while Tianjin and Baoding also got opening wins in the 2022-23 Men’s Super League.
Despite getting into the match slowly, Shanghai didn’t concede a single set to the league newcomers at the season’s launch: 25-21, 25-15, and 25-14. Shanghai’s debut in 2022-23 was marred by injuries of their two projected starters, Dai Qingyao and Italian Giulio Sabbi. Nevertheless, Shanghai have quite enough ammo given they brought in players like Bartosz Bednorz and Osmany Juantorena to their ranks in the offseason. Exactly the Pole scored a game-high 14 points.
Tianjin bounced back from the first and third-set losses to edge Shandong 3-2 (18-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-23, 15-13). Shandong’s opposite, Wang Jingyi, scored a game-high 28 points, but it wasn’t enough to stop Tianjin, for which Du Haixiang tallied 17 points.
Also today, the newcomers from Baoding overpowered Jiangsu in a five-setter with sets of 31-33, 26-24, 25-21, 19-25, and 17-15.
