Slovenia’s national volleyball team is coming off an impressive season, having made history by qualifying for the Olympics for the first time. Despite falling short of a medal in Paris, where they finished fifth, the team’s performance in the Nations League and the Olympics was widely celebrated.
However, questions loom over whether head coach Gheorghe Crețu will continue in his role. The Romanian coach, whose contract ended after the Olympics, has yet to decide on his future with the Slovenian team. “I haven’t thought about the future yet,” Crețu stated, before he went to his club duties in Poland. Volleyball Federation President Metod Ropret has expressed hope for continued collaboration, with discussions set for October.
Additionally, the future of some veteran players is uncertain. While some of them has hinted at taking a break next season, there’s no official word on retirements. The team is expected to start incorporating younger talent, marking the potential end of a golden generation while paving the way for new stars.
