In the one hour, 15 minute match, Park Chul-Woo and Matthew Anderson were the leading scorers with 13 points each, followed by Jeon Kwang-In and William Priddy, who both had 12. USA earned 10 blocking points to Korea’s four and six service aces – including three by Anderson – against Korea’s one.
Korea, who are now 1-8, matched the Americans in the early part of the first set and were only a point behind at 17-16 when USA’s David Lee earned a blocking point that sent USA on a run that Korea couldn’t compete with.
The Americans were serving and blocking well and when Clayton Stanley and Anderson cranked up their attacks, the Koreans struggled to live with them. Big guns Park and Jeon tried their best to haul Korea back into the match, but the USA outplayed and outwitted their opponents, taking the second set 25-18.
It was more of the same in the third set, with American setter Donald Suxho cleverly distributing the ball to his superior attackers. Korea showed elements of improvement on defence, but the Americans always had an answer and took the third set by the same score, 25-18.
Pool C now moves to Dallas in the United States for the concluding weekend of the Intercontinental Round.
