WL: Netherlands beats Portugal at opening, Schmitt crushes Cuba

The new edition of FIVB World League has started with two easy wins in Intercontinental Round, in Pool C and Pool E!

We’ll begin with Pool E where Netherlands ovepowered home team of Portugal in four sets – 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20), in the city of Matosinhos.

Portugal set off the opening game of the 2015 World League in great style, but Netherlands established its dominance in the next three sets, presenting superior serves and attacking options.

Dick Kooy scored 14 for the Dutch team while Hugo Gaspar noted the same number of points in Portugal.

Canadians showed powerful performance against reconstructed national team of Cuba in Pool C, in Calgary.

Led by one of the main stars of current transfer market, Gavin Schmitt (scored 17 points), Canada thrilled home crowd with a straight-sets win, partialy 25-20, 25-19, 26-24

Schmitt was mostly dominant in the third and toughest set. Cuba missed huge opportunity to introduce uncertainty in the match as it has spilled 23-21 lead.

Osmany Uriarte had 11 points in Cuba.
