In October, as hosts, Venezuela lost the chance for direct qualification to the 2016 Olympic Games by losing to Argentina in the final of the South American Qualifying Tournament.
So, the Venezuela’s National Team will play the additional qualifiers as the second in South America and will face the top three Asian teams in the ranking of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), the second and third from European Olympic Qualifiers and the second from NORCECA (North and Central America and Caribbean).
Venezuela will seek a second participation at the Olympics, after Beijing 2008, with these players:
Setters – José Carrasco, Ángel Petit; Outside hitters/receivers – Máximo Montoya, Fernando González, Wíllner Rivas, Jhonlenn Barreto, Jhoser Contreras; Middle blockers – Iván Márquez, Edson Valencia, Jónathan Quijada; Opposite hitters – Émerson Rodríguez, Kervin Piñerúa; Liberos – Oscar García, Héctor Mata.
