In a derby of former compatriots, Czech Republic suffered a defeat against Slovakia on road in the second leg of the third round of European Qualifications 3-2 (26-28, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22, 15-10), held in the city of Poprad. But it was a victorious defeat because Czech ladies smashed their rivals in the first leg 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-15) at home in Jablonec.
Thus, Czech Republic became 14th participant of the 2017 CEV Women’s Volleyball European Championship in Azerbaijan and Georgia.
Jaroslava Pencová and Veronika Hrončeková topped Slovakia’s scorers with 18 points each while Michaela Mlejnková had 24 points in Czech team.
Two more spots for EuroVolley are still open. Spain – Ukraine and Hungary – Romania duels will decide on them while, besides hosts Azerbaijan and Georgia and now Czech Republic, these teams also secured their berths: Serbia, Russia, The Netherlands, Turkey, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Poland, Croatia, Bulgaria and Belarus.
